The brief was to design a retail store for online plant retailer Patch, within the ground floor of a multi storey property based in Islington in London. Inspired by the authenticity of the brand and their values and approach towards the world of horticulture, the concept ‘Authentic Paradise’ allows us to fully understand Patch’s values and motives, as well as creating a unique store like setting where customers can truly unlock their creativity and envisage these plants within their own paradise. The design accommodates up to 48 individuals and servesmultiple functions, with main display areas and serving
points, staff and stock facilities and a dedicated area to the relationship between Patch and the charity Thrive, and the Social and Therapeutic Horticultural programmes.
Bespoke features were incorporated to reallycontribute to the authenticity of the design. Inspired by archways as seen in dreamscape architecture, heavily inspired from my concept, many elements included these. Larger archways into the entrance of the display area, an archway walk-through exhibition to highlight Social and Therapeutic Horticulture, and an arch over the workshop space were used. Materials and finishes chosen will tailor to the feel of Patch’s online presence and will connect to the more rustic materials such as concrete and stone. A contemporary finish with a cool
and minimal colour palette.
